21-Year Old Quadriplegic Left In the Woods By His Mom

Authorities believe that Nyia Parler, a 41-year old mother, may have allegedly placed her 21-year old son who is a non-verbal quadriplegic with cerebral palsy in the woods near southwest Philadelphia. For over five days, her son, covered in leaves, was left with a Bible in his possession and a thin blanket. Found ten feet away from his wheelchair, if it wasn’t for a passerby, authorities are certain that he would most certainly have died.

To avoid appearing suspicious, she had concocted a story to her sisters that she was taking her son along to Maryland to visit her new boyfriend, JohPhiladelphia newsn Ferguson. When questioned by her boyfriend on the whereabouts of her son, she told him that she left her son with childcare services.
Due to the serious nature of this incident, Parler may be charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, neglect of a care-dependent person, unlawful restraint, kidnapping and false imprisonment.

Relatives of Parler spoke of the good-natured mom who often made sure that her son was clean and tidy and so we are left feeling unsure as to what led to the sudden abandonment of her son. We can only make speculations on the exhausting toll that caring for a wheelbound-child has on parents.
However, we are left with some clues. Authorities have scoured Parler’s Facebook page and the phrase “I’m so happy!” was scrawled on her page.

She has been admitted to a Maryland hospital and will face extradition and released to Philadelphia authorities once she leaves the hospital on “undisclosed condition.”

Authorities believe that Parler pushed her son about 150 yards from the highway into the wooded area and takes him out of the wheelchair, puts a blanket on him where he is left without water and a Bible. Some have speculated on the significance of the religious item as a last rite believing that there was little chance that he would survive on his own, given his physical challenges.

Fortunately, the 21-year old whose identity has not yet been released, has survived and is staying at the Philadelphia Children’s Hospital as they are very familiar with his medical history where he is treated for dehydration, mal-nutrition and minor cuts to the eyes and back. There he is being looked after by his aunts. Parler’s other child, a 16-year-old son is being looked after with other family members.
