2012: The End of the World?

Maya 2012 Lords of Time, Penn Museum, Philadelphia, Art, History, ExhibitionJourney through the mind of the Maya whilst separating fact from fiction at the MAYA 2012: Lords of Time exhibition at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology this summer.

The first exhibition of its kind, observe the complex time-ordered world of these people, and experience the power of their divine kings, the ‘lords of time’.

Running until January 13 2013 (if the world hasn’t come to an end before then) this exhibition also studies our obsession with predicting a world-shattering apocalypse in 2012 and that link with the ancient world of the Maya.

Following the rise and fall of Copan, MAYA 2012: Lords of Time moves through centuries to reveal how Maya ideas about time and the calendar have transformed up to present day.

With over 150 curious artifacts, including never-before-seen findings recently excavated at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Copan, Honduras by our very own Penn Museum archaeologists this exhibition is a must-see.

Learn about a history and culture far more extraordinary and exciting than most people realise.
